After last week’s defeat, Coaches Russ and Danny were eager to get the girls back to winning ways.
Starting today is Captain Summer in goal, Eva, Nevaeh, and Grace in defence, midfielders Rose, Gracie, Raegan, and Rosie, with Lola in her usual position as striker. Super subs are Amelia, Corrin, Maisie and Evie. A special mention too for Evie’s Dad, Jamie, running the line.
The first 5 minutes of the game were fairly even, with both teams starting brightly and challenging for the ball in midfield. It wasn’t long before Charnock took advantage though; Rosie and Grace confidently controlling the ball and working together to send Lola clear on goal for the first shot of the game that was pushed out by the Dearne keeper for a corner. With the corner taken short by Rose, Raegan made a clinical pass to Rosie who sent a looping cross into the Dearne area for Gracie to shoot, forcing a great save by the keeper.
Shortly after and the Charnock pressure paid dividends - Rose ran down the wing, cutting in and crossing for Lola to score the first goal of the match.
The girls then stepped up a gear – Rosie pressing forward and forcing another save, and Lola shooting just wide. Grace too, oozing confidence, avoiding tackles to stride forward and play a perfect through ball to Lola.
With Nevaeh and Grace pushing upfield, Dearne were forced to play long balls that were ably dealt with by the Charnock defence, reading the game well to catch Dearne offside.
With fresh Charnock legs on the field, the pace of the game was raised. Amelia, having her best game yet, showed confidence and skill to avoid tackles and push through midfield. Corrin too, creating space and reading the game to make strides down the line, looking to find Gracie and Lola with some great passes.
This vigorous play from Charnock soon paid off – Gracie tried a shot, saved by the Dearne keeper, and Lola then scored from Gracie’s cross to make it 2-0.
With Captain Summer instructing her players, Dearne had a chance that was dealt with firmly by Eva and Evie, clearing up-field to Rosie who, once again, skilfully avoided Dearne tackles, to link up with Corrin and force the Dearne keeper into action again.
With the Dearne keeper kicking long, Dearne then won a corner that was defended well and cleared to Lola who set off like a rocket, flanked by the tireless Rosie. Another good shot from Lola was saved, but with the keeper unable to keep the ball in her hands, Lola tapped in the loose ball for her hat trick.
The score was soon 4-0. Just before half time, Maisie found herself unmarked in the Dearne area, turning to shoot from a tight angle for a well-deserved goal.
In the second half, Coach Russ made some changes and tried the girls in different positions. With Rose moving to centre forward, Amelia delivered a great cross forcing the Dearne keeper into action under pressure from Rose who took the score to 5-0. And Amelia again, avoiding tackles to pass to Rose to lose her marker and run forward at speed and shoot: 6-0.
More skilful play from Charnock, saw Maisie collect the ball from a Dearne goal kick and pass to Corrin to press forward, with Grace then doing the same under pressure from Dearne to play a lovely ball over to a delighted Rose for her hat-trick to take the game to 7-0.
With the game all but won, the Charnock girls were able to play confidently and put their hard work in training to good use. A decent free kick from Nevaeh was collected by Corrin for a swooping run forward and shot. Rosie too, working together with Gracie saw both girls try their luck. Raegan firm in midfield, tried a long range shot, and quickly chased down the cleared ball helping Rose to shoot into the corner of the Dearne net and take the score to 8-0.
With the clock ticking, the tireless Rosie tried a shot on goal, winning a corner. Taken by Rose, and with several Charnock girls there and ready, the ball was once again in the Dearne net through some great play from Grace to make it 9-0 at full time.
Coach Russ was happy and proud of the girls’ today, saying it was a great performance with all 13 girls putting a shift in. Similar words too from Coach Danny, praising the girls’ effort and positive attitude in training and in the match today. Manager James sent his praise to all players for positive feedback he’d received from the Referee who said all girls today were polite and respectful.
With every Charnock player having a deserved claim to the after match awards this week, Russ selected Amelia for Girl of the Game and Rosie for Effort of the Week. Two Hat-Trick Heroes as well for Rose and Lola. Well done to each and every girl today.
Sending get well soon wishes to James, our manager and, as always, UP THE CHARNOCK !
