Charnock Girls U15s (0) v SJR Worksop Girls U15s (0)
Finally got back to a game of football after the lockdown again. The girls have worked really hard on their own in lockdown and also in training since we have come back.
This time we welcomed Worksop, the match was ‘Touch and Go’ if it went ahead but thankfully it did - the pitch wasn't ideal and very heavy in places - but credit to both teams for a cracking match. We knew Worksop from previous years were very physical and had some very good technical players as well. And it proved to be the same way this morning, but against a physical side our girls stood up fantastic to them.
Worksop started off on the front foot doing most of the pressing but our defence stood firm and gave Worksop few opportunities. We started to create a few chances but never really testing their keeper, both defences were on top. Molly had a long range shot but their keeper dealt with it comfortably and Megan broke free a few times but really good defending from their number 5 denied Megan from shooting at goal. Worksop kept having a go at us but we defended well. This game was really becoming a midfield battle and with few chances the score was 0v0 at H/T.
Second half the pitch was really getting heavy, testing their fitness and it became more stretched as the game went on with both teams creating more clear-cut opportunities. Worksop went close a couple of times when one of their girls broke through and just hit it wide of the far post. Then big moments in the game where we didn't quite get the decisions - first one came from Megan who made a lovely run and their Keeper came sliding out but we were denied a penalty. Then another very unfortunate moment when it looked like we scored the winning goal when Lilly P took it off the Keeper but was denied saying that she had two hands on the ball so the goal was disallowed. So, it ended up the final score 0v0.
Overall very proud of the girls today and how there stood up to Worksop. Very physical team and we matched them all the way. I was so proud today watching the girls do this because it's something else the girls have learnt as well as playing good football they have also got to match teams in there physicality.
We didn't get the big decisions today but overall I think it was probably a fair result. All the girls were outstanding today. Ellie was terrific in the net. Our defence were absolutely brilliant. Our midfield worked so hard and put some terrific tackles in there. Our strikers were excellent and always looked a threat for the Worksop defence.
I normally don't give a man of the match out but today I thought Corah played the best I've ever seen her play in a Charnock shirt. But all 14 of you were fantastic.
Thanks to Karen and Christine for running the tuck shop and everybody who helped set the equipment up this morning. Looking forward now to our final game before Christmas, next week against Kiveton at home.
