Sheffield Steelers JFC U13 Girls (5) v Charnock Girls U13 Purple (0)
What an exciting match to watch!! We kicked off with our starting 9 with 2 subs and saw an energised Charnock side dig in. We started playing up the hill at Graves Park and keeping a good amount of possession. After 15 minutes at 0-0, Charnock looked the stronger team and we were doing some fantastic passing and tackling.
Scarlett's confidence is building, cleared the ball several times from defence without panic and looked for the pass, supported by Maddie who did one of the best tackles of the match, taking the ball down the right wing and effortlessly passing a Steelers midfielder.
Poppy, our Captain, made some excellent tackles and fought hard to move the ball forward, assisted by Milly, who worked relentlessly trying to seize opportunities. Diane kept centre defence, communicating well to try and stop the attacking team, blocking several balls whilst assisting Ella who made some very tidy saves.
We need to work on our defensive tactics, our agility, speed and clearing the ball first time as it was evident as several balls just got past us. With improvements to our organisation and communication skills during training, our confidence will deliver.
The opposition Manager made a positive comment about Ella and the effort she put in, well done Ella!
Melika, our new player, had an excellent performance in defence. She pressured many of Steelers attacking players, taking possession several times and progressing the ball up to midfield. Due to Melikas natural ability to attack, reaction speed and urgency to move about the field we moved her forward on the pitch and she rose to the challenge. Melika fought hard for the ball, splitting players and not being afraid to tackle. I love this spirited play and we will be working hard on those fundamentals. Well done Melika!
Chloe, Ruby, Lizzie and Leela made some good solid challenges in their positions and worked hard to keep possession.
I'd say Charnock had 65% procession for the majority of the match and there was a definite collective change to the team and more cohesive comradery was visible. Heads were up and the team talk was about believing in themselves, nurturing and developing a team identity which is understandably growing and changing all the time.
Strengths and talents are being found from experience and determination. Tactical and strategic play is improving and all those foundation blocks and pre-season games and training is coming together.
I am very proud of these girls, who walk away from every match with no points. These girls don't walk away on the losing team...they leave chalking up another whole bunch of positives and experience of what is required to grow. As far as I'm concerned their already a winning team.
See you Tuesday
