Pre-Season Friendly - Charnock U13 Purple (0) v (2) Chesterfield Spire U13
What a game! Our second friendly of the summer and the girls really responded well and made a decisive decision to pull together. We saw the team work well to get plenty of time on the ball.
With fairly equally matched teams, Charnock started well and moved cohesively. At times, patterns were observed and players held their positions well. Half time saw 0-0 and Marc and I already commented how proud we were and how different play was from Saturday. The changes in positions were working with some girls commenting that they felt happy and confident in their new positions…..something we will keep working on!
Scarlett headed up our central Midfield and as her confidence grew, she navigated around the field with coaches feeding her snippets of information to anticipate and drive forward following the pass and using space. Scarlett worked incredibly hard and she has already made a huge impression in the midfield. Its lovely the girls know how each other play. Scarlett made comment how to improve the game between each other, already taking the reins and managing a future plan which was excellent to see.
During the game, nobody smiled more than Milly! It was amazing to see how she has settled in so fast. She was one of the players again that got lots of possession and her manoeuvring of the ball was excellent. It was evident that she has worked hard at this and with added confidence last night, she gave herself thinking time with good anticipation whilst working through midfield. During the game, Milly had several runs and I believe with a little more experience could have led to a goal.
Poppy used her speed and agility to support the girls and make many tackles. It was great to see Poppy smiling and she is building great skills in anticipation and appears from nowhere getting stuck in. Ruby and Chloe worked hard up front and dropped back to mid, to work tirelessly when required. Well done to Chloe for her debut up front and she tackled well and cleared several balls. Ruby's speed is improving and we love her calm exterior and her ability to react immediately pressuring players. Clearing the ball was stronger yesterday as a team and Iris, who was our Captain worked relentlessly to react to attacking players in situations.
At times players were all bunched together and Spire scored their first goal from this. We had a talk after about talking time with the ball and not panicking which can be more effective than 10 girls on one ball. Playing this way left the goalie unable to see resulting in an easy goal. As the game progressed I asked Iris to make some runs up to midfield as the defence were doing a great job and Iris did not disappoint. A couple of amazing runs almost resulting in goals.
Asha, Lizzie and Diane did an awesome job. Much more confidence today, heads up and targeting the ball with many tackles and gaining more possession. All of you did some cracking returns to prevent further difficulties and clearing the ball into midfield. A special well done to Lizzie, who played better than I've ever seen her play and has come on leaps and bounds. You really got involved and anticipated well, preventing lots of opposition attacks.
Our goalkeeper Ella was again amazing. Plenty of saves and remaining alert for all of the match with so much congestion and unpredictably. Upon the final whistle, the Spire girls immediately burst to life, giving 3 cheers for our girls, showing what excellent sports they were. As a Manager I can say they were one of the nicest and most positive teams we have played…..with a Manager to match.
Well done Chesterfield Spire and well done Charnock girls.
Keep up the hard work!!!
Claire and Marc.
