Pre-Season Friendly – Charnock Girls U15 (1) v Sheffield United Community Foundation Girls U15 (0)
It hasn't been an easy pre-season with everything going off but finally getting football matches back on is fantastic.
So, playing our second pre-season game in a week this one was going to be a real test. United have got a very experienced team and are physical and we had to stand up to that. I thought the girls were fantastic and did Charnock proud. The first 10 minutes United were on top and we struggled a bit to get into the game. But after the first 10-minutes we started playing, supporting our strikers more from midfield and defending well, we started to create our own chances.
Morgan hit a fantastic shot from 25 yards just going over the crossbar, then a lovely move through Lily S playing a good ball to Megan then flicked it on to Leah, just hit her shot wide. Then Megan broke through down the middle with a last-ditch tackle stopping her from scoring. United had a few chances as well but some lovely defending, Evie denying their striker from scoring and Ellie dealing with everything thrown at her especially with good handing from crosses. H/T 0v0.
Second half we changed the formation a bit. And again, creating some great chances. Lily P making a lovely run down the right-hand side just hitting her shot over the crossbar. Then Megan did a lovely cross from the right-hand side, found Freya at the back post who nearly scored. I was so pleased how we were matching United with their physical challenges, and our fitness levels and pressing was impressive. And finally that goal came through some lovely pressing in midfield, the ball found Molly who took a couple of touches then striking a nice right foot shot going in the bottom corner off the post. The girls got what they deserved and fully deserved their win today. And United's manager was full of praise for the girls which was really nice of him.
Really looking forward to next week's game, playing a very tough Derbyshire team will give our girls a test again. Well done to all 14 of you today - you were all outstanding.
