Wickersley Youth Girls Reds U12s (3) V Charnock White U12s (1)
It was a match unlike no other and both teams braved the weather, the storm bomb Dennis!
With factors like rain and wind, both teams decided to go ahead and play the match, considering players safety first.
A great start to the game saw Charnock take possession and battle weather conditions to stay on the ball and pressure Wickersley who tried to make chances, but with the Whites growing in experience, they struggled to make a break. Although that break came after 15 minutes, Wickersley making an easy goal Charnock kept their heads up and Shola's touch secured a 1-1 draw at half time. Ella made several fantastic saves, and it is observed that she is growing and maturing into an excellent and confident goalkeeper. She makes saves and is almost always in the best position, anticipating where she can maximise her efforts. Kerry has been working with her and this has paid off massively.
The second half started and with the wind direction not in our favour the weather worsened which saw difficulties in Charnock holding their positions and Wickersley become the stronger team, securing a further 2 goals. It wasn't an easy win for Wickersley and I dare say, the teams were quite well matched. Wickersley overall were slightly more mature and experienced.
Our weakness was positioning, but with many factors to consider, this will only improve with each game. Our players are taking this on board and are now trusting their team mates and are quickly learning to communicate to benefit the team. Their comradery and passion is frequently observed. This is the heart of Charnock Whites.
Ella, keep up the excellent work. Your ability to anticipate and persevere is unfathomable!!! So Proud! Shola, another goal and excellent work in midfield. The team's carer and one of the oldest members, your ability grows each match. Your passionate and brilliant! Always believe that! Iris, the work you put in is incredible. In that one hour, you prove you are 100% committed and don't leave a stone unturned. We tried to put you in midfield, but needed to strengthen the defence once you'd moved. The heart of the defence. Thank you for persevering. Tiah, a difficult game with extreme weather conditions made you work even harder. Great tackling and a good attempt at goal with 2 clear runs and a ball shot over the goal. Someone raise those goals! Keep pushing! Leela, again always in the right place and some excellent tackles, resulting in you saving us several times, kicking the ball up the centre. You are making your mark, Leela!
Madison - Player of the Match I don’t think you realised how well you played, from your surprised look when we announced player of the match! You turned that ball around more times than anyone and was always in the action, tackling and progressing the ball. I noticed you looking for players too! You have come along massively and look very happy on the pitch. Well done Madison.
Chloe - Player of the match - What can I say! Speechless, with the first directional jump header, which you turned that ball going out, directly back to midfield and towards the goal....and then 6 other headers after that. You steamed through the centre stealing the ball and taking it through mid to cross to Tiah which almost resulted in a goal. The conditions were extremely poor, but that did not matter to you. Stunning play and keep pushing it Chloe as there are no boundaries!!!.
Poppy, today you excelled and kept your composure in appalling conditions. You pressured many stronger players and made challenges to intercept the ball. You are at home in the defence and midfield and both positions will help you develop your skills to push to that next level. Keep pushing Poppy Congratulations to Elizabeth for her debut match. Elizabeth went into midfield and did exactly what she should have done. Marked and defended well and made several tackles. You've come to us with great stamina, positivity and determination. This can be seen when you play. Exciting! Well done! Mia, excellent performance throughout the match. Some brilliant deflections and good marking of players. Even with the conditions you kept your head up and assisted the defence in poor visibility. Excellent job again Mia. Ruby, the first half saw you get involved and pressure Wickersley's midfield and several clearances assisted Tiah, Shola and Chloe. Your effort, determination and energy used was shown on your face. An integral wheel in the midfield and up field play, you display, anticipation, speed and ready to reacted in a split second! Keeping pushing!
A massive well done to all the players. Have a great half term and much deserved rest! See you at training on Tuesday and next Saturday, our next match away against Sheffield Wednesday ladies!!!
